My father was on Iwo Jima. Carried a flamethrower at age 18. He saw that flag go up on Mt. Surabachi. When he left us in 2017 he was buried in Quantico National Cemetery with full honors. I was handed a folded flag by a U.S. Marine. He had lived with us for 17 years and served as a docent at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in the Iwo Jima gallery. His generation were indeed the greatest. I weep to see what our country has become in only 2 generations.
