I worked as a Range Safety Officer on and off for the last 20+ years, and the ones that were invariably the worst safety violators were usually in some capacity law enforcement. They would act like the range rules were for other people, argue when corrected for blatant safety issues, and ignore rules when it suited them. We had numerous different agencies come to use the range for qualification. One of the rules was all firearms had to be cased or holstered until you were on the firing line, had a cop come in with his rifle slung across his chest and when told to case it he flashed his badge and said “that doesn’t apply to me.” I told him not only does it especially apply to him, but that I was going to make him watch our safety video again and quiz him on it before I let him on the range. I have dealt with tragic incidents on the range multiple times, so I take safety very seriously.

I was raised in a very anti-gun family (love em all), but never knew or was taught about gun safety until I decided to buy my first gun at 25 years of age if I know about how being safe with firearms these people should also know since their whole job revolves around it!
