A prolix meme about the nature of our nation is that it’s a constitutional republic but not a democracy. Right on the first point and dead wrong on the second. One legal citizen, one vote is a democracy. The majority generally choses the direction of the nation. That’s a democracy. Lincoln wrote in the Gettysburg address that we fought the civil war to maintain the founders’ ideal of a “government of, by and for the people.” That’s a democracy. We are a democratic, constitutional republic. The constitution reins in and gives parameters to the excesses inherent in democracy which would otherwise favor the majority to the disadvantage of the minority, thus the electoral college. Since rights are inherent to each and every human being, they recognize and call attention to the just needs and demands of every person. We might think of the communist dictatorships who call themselves the people’s democratic republic, but they are anything but democratic. They firmly believe in and practice governance of absolute control though a power elite, denying the people freedom and input. Remember that the power elite want neither a democracy nor a constitution to stand in the way of their wealth and power.
We need to completely clean house with all democrats. They have no common sense. First we cannot continue to let people from across the globe come into our country without punishment. They must come in the right way. Hire more police not less. Better pay for our police. Send illegals back to their own countries. Only Americans may vote.
